I need an advice from game developers

Well I need an advice guys, Look I'm a motion graphics designer & 2D character animator, but I want to get into game development you know like mobile games. I wanted to create games since i was a kid, I'm kind of a gamer.

I've been playing around with GameMaker and it seems pretty easy, and the good thing is that I'm really good at working with 2D animations and GameMaker is all about 2D games.

But, I'm not completely sure about GameMaker... I did a little research online and it seems like a lot of people dislike the software. It's too easy, it's a toy, unity is better, you know all those kind of things. And I couldn't find any populars games created on game maker... is it because it has a lot of limitations?

My questions is, Is really worth it learning GameMaker? or should I just spend more time learning and go for unity? because I also have a little background on 3D character animation so that won't be a problem.

Can a single person create a game in unity? I mean I know a single person can make a game by himself but it will take years? Is there really much difference between the softwares?

I'll really appreciate any advices, and please if you are going to troll just don't waste your time and don't post anything.
